We’re delighted to announce that our fabulous judges — Eben Upton, Hayaatun Sillem, Limor Fried, Mitch Resnick, and Tim Peake — have chosen their favourite projects from the Coolest Projects online showcase!
Which projects did Eben Upton like the best?
This week, we highlight Eben Upton’s favourites. Eben is a founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation and one of the inventors of the Raspberry Pi computer. As the CEO of Raspberry Pi Trading Ltd, he oversees the company, including the development of all its hardware. For the Coolest Projects participants, Eben has this message:
“We’re going to need a lot of people in the future who know about technology, and it would be lovely if those people were you. That’s why it’s so exciting to see all the cool stuff you’re doing!”
Young tech creators registered projects from their homes in 39 countries, including Ireland, Australia, Palestine, UK, USA, India, and Indonesia. In total, an incredible 560 projects from 775 young creators are part of the showcase.
Here are the projects that Eben liked most:
Haya: Bobby ‘A platformer’
“Bobby ‘A platformer’ is a game I made on Scratch. It is a platformer game with a lot of obstacles and adventures!”
Kaushal: Diabetic Retinopathy Detector
“I thought of ways to use technology to lower the misdiagnosis rate…(diabetic retinopathy), so I implemented a neural network model to detect diabetic retinopathy in an image of an eye.”
Zaahra, Eesa: Easy Sylheti
“Our app is to teach people Sylheti, which is the dialect of Banghali, which is where we are from. We hope you like it!”
Mahmoud: Fighting Against Coronavirus
“A website […] about the coronavirus, including the number of infected cases, the number of recoverers, the number of deaths, and the remaining cases.”
Oisín: MiniGolf In Python
“I loved when we went on holidays and played mini golf, so I really wanted to make a replica of it in Python.”
Fíona: TeenBeo
“TeenBeo features activities to help teenagers stay calm and happy. I’m just starting my HTML and CSS journey and hope to help young people with mental wellbeing!”
Artash, Arushi – The Masked Scales: The Sonifcation of the Impact of Covid19 Lockdown into a Lockdown Musical
“We decided to undertake a project to measure the impacts of COVID-19 lockdown around us in terms of changes in street sounds, reduction in pollution, and decrease in vehicle count on the road.”
You can find all the projects that Eben has highlighted on our showcase gallery.
This year’s Coolest Projects online showcase wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors — thank you!
