Jack, Bethan, Elsa, Lily, and Tara (all aged between 11 and 12), a team from a Code Club in Scotland, travelled to Dublin to present their project at Coolest Projects International 2019, having participated in Coolest Projects UK a few months earlier. Their project, M.A.D. About Litter, was inspired by concerns about the planet and recent beach cleanups that the team had attended.
Memories from Coolest Projects International 2019
The team was awestruck by the scale of the international showcase in Dublin and the excitement all around: “Dublin was huge”. The team enjoyed presenting their project on the Innovator Stage, and left with the Innovator Prize for their outstanding work — as well as a unique talking point: “We loved the Innovator Stage where we were interviewed about our app and got our ‘cheque’ for 100 billion innovation dollars (lots of people asked us about it at the airport!)”.
The next steps for the team
Coolest Projects encourages a growth mindset, and the M.A.D. About Litter team is working on how to help the environment using the skills they have learned from their Coolest Projects experience: “We would love to see people use [our app] but all the next steps seem quite tricky, so not sure how we will do it. We will keep trying and learning new things though until we reach our plan.”
Jack, Bethan, Elsa, Lily, and Tara’s travel bursary was in part funded by one of our generous Coolest Projects sponsors, BNY Mellon.
