Celebrate young tech innovators in the UK

Update 13 March 2020:

We have made the tough decision to cancel Coolest Projects UK due to growing concerns related to coronavirus. We’re sorry to have to do this, but there is just too much uncertainty for us to continue to ask young people, parents, mentors, and volunteers to make travel and other arrangements.

Here is our CEO Philip Colligan’s message about this.

We want to thank you for your enthusiasm about Coolest Projects, and we hope to see you at a future event!

Coolest Projects UK is a world-leading showcase for young innovators who make stuff with technology. If you’re up to 18 and you’re making something with technology for fun, to solve a problem, or as a creative outlet, then we want you to come out and share your project with us!

Register a project

Coolest Projects UK is open to all young people up to the age of 18. Register your project or idea to participate in the showcase at the Sharp Project in Manchester together with hundreds of other young tech creators from around the country.

Coolest Projects events are open to all levels of ability; the focus is on creativity, participation, and most of all having fun! Projects are encouraged, in any programming language, using whatever hardware you have — whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned expert. Your project doesn’t have to be completed when you register either — an idea is all you need! You can work as an individual, or as part of a team of up to five people.

Entries can win awards in different categories, from games and mobile apps to advanced programming and 3D design. You can read about the categories here.

The project registration form is simple, and you should complete it with the adult accompanying you to the event!

Attend

Attend Coolest Projects UK to see young people from all over the UK showcase their awesome creations. This family-friendly event is free to attend for the general public, giving more people the opportunity to become inspired to create with technology.

Our hosts at Coolest Projects UK 2020

Maddie Moate is a YouTube filmmaker and BAFTA award winning presenter, passionate about curiosity. She has been presenting popular science and tech content online for the past 6 years and has amassed over 18 million views on her YouTube films across multiple channels.

One of the only female “Edu-tubers” in the UK, Maddie also has her own successful YouTube channel. Here she makes films which combines the traditional YouTube style with educational content. Her videos aim to inspire a new audience to stay curious, adventurous and encourage science engagement.

Since 2016, Maddie has hosted the hit Cbeebies series Do You Know?, which sees her explore the workings of everyday objects by asking how they are made or work, all made possible with special cameras and animations. In 2017, Maddie triumphed in the presenter category at the BAFTA Children’s Awards and has since starred in the Cbeebies Proms during 2019, in addition to the Cbeebies Christmas Show in both 2017 and 2018.

She has also hosted Springwatch Wild Academy (BBC), Cloud Challenge (CNBC) and items for This Morning (ITV).

Greg Foot is a Science Journalist on BBC TV & Radio, a successful YouTuber & podcaster, an experienced event & awards host, a public engagement trainer, and Creative Director of sciencemedia.studio.

In his popular BBC Radio 4 series, ‘The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread?’, Greg investigates bold marketing claims to separate fact from fad. The series was also released as extended podcasts and reached #5 in the main iTunes chart. He recently released a ‘Goop Lab Special’.

His recent BBC World News TV series explored the future of food and played in over 200 countries worldwide.

Greg’s YouTube videos have now amassed well over 30 million views across his own channel, those he partners on with brands, and on BBC Earth’s science channel (which he wrote & hosted for 5 years).
