We wanted to share some of the stories from CoderDojo Ninjas that have taken part in the Coolest Projects in previous years. Please meet Dhruv, an attendee of the Dublin Docklands Dojo, who created his own HTML website and entered Coolest Projects in 2015!
- Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m Dhruv and I am 11 years old. I live in Dublin with my parents and I like dinosaurs and playing video games. I like many things, there are too many to list here 🙂 I used to ask my parents how are video games and websites made and my parents replied it is all due to computer programming and coding. So they got me into CoderDojo.
- What do you love about coding?
I like the fact that you can make games and apps and music from as little as one line of code! The languages I have learnt so far are HTML and CSS and I’m also now learning Ruby & Sonic Pi.Out of these three, my favourite right now is Ruby & Sonic Pi because coding for music is so much fun.
I’m going to tell you about a project I have created. The project is Dhruv’s Dino Know I All website. I used HTML code for structure of the website and CSS code for the styling of the site and the animations for the home and webpages. The site is about dinosaurs and everything about them. It has a home page and all other pages are linked to it. I even put dinosaur roar sound and some videos on my website!
- Tell us a little about your experience at the Coolest Projects.
The experience was incredible because there were lots of projects, sponsors, judges, volunteers and mentors at the event. I got to see lots of creativity and cool things at the Coolest Projects.
- What advice would you give to young people about learning to code?
Coding is very important in the 21st century because if you do not learn computer programming, how can you use computers at work when you are an adult. Also always experiment and most importantly have fun.
